George Stasinopoulos
Prof. George Stassinopoulos was born in Athens in 1951. He received the Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zuerich) in 1974 and the Ph.D. in Automatic Control from the Imperial College, London, Department of Computing and Control in 1977. In 1977-1981 he gained acquired industrial experience in the design and manufacture of microprocessor based industrial controllers in the cement industry (AGET General Cement Company) as well as in computer networking and industrial process control. From 1981 he is a member of the staff of the National Technical University of Athens, School of Electrical & Computer Engineering where he is currently a professor. He has served from 1994 to 1997 as Director in Computer Science Division of the Department.
His fields of activity have included data communication networks LANs, MANs, packet, circuit and hybrid switching systems, analysis and synthesis of communication networks, routing, flow control and queuing theory. He has lead research groups at NTUA in hardware and software design for components and subsystems in broadband networks, among which probably the first ATM adapter for PCs (1992). More recently he has participated in research activities for ATM - Internet interworking, Quality of Service and related Network Management and Service Engineering issues. He has participated in various national and internationally supported projects in the above areas, most notably those in the RACE, ACTS and IST programs. Another concluded activity has been his involvement in dissemination activities in the Middle East and Mediterranean countries in the area of High Performance Computing.
He has over sixty publications in the above areas. He is a reviewer for the IEEE Transactions on Communications and the IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications. Prof. Stassinopoulos is a member of IEEE and the Technical Chamber of Greece.
